Packet8 voip was chosen by positive voip reviews but disappointed with their service. How about contract?? My terms have changed twice. My Voip selected plan was switched to a higher rate plan. They threatened that they could change it any time they wanted. read more...

Packet8 was the first and I think last VOIP service I will ever try… The sound quality was horrible. From time to time my phone cutting off during conversations, and I had to use cell phone to continue important meeting. Never use Packet8 as business voip. read more...

I have been with Packet8 voip since May 2005. Quick ship of ATA, easy setup. It worked good until Sept 2006. I often had to reset the box. I had Vonage for a year prior to this, and simply put, Vonage was way better with everything, except price. After Sept 2006 my service and sound quality became poor. Tons of echoes, they constantly blamed my cable provider. Yet speed and size test pinging my cable provider were excellent. People would call and not get anything. I would dial and often still do not get anything. Oh well, after our one year, I am gone. Hate to say it but I had Vonage and thye were better. I had ATTs VOIP for 1 month alos (they did not have my area code in their early days) Both had much better connecions. Packet8 was polite and tried to be helpful so I have no complaints. But quality is poor. READ the PACKET8 forums on packet8s site and notice the ton of complaints starting in the fall of 2006 read more...

I have been using Packet8 voip for several months and overall am pleased with the service. Quality related issues, when they happen, are generally are related to my ISP. The services provided by Packet8 have fully met and in some cases exceeded my expectations with regard to things like number porting, customer service, etc. read more...

I signed up with Packet8 voip on agust. Paid a full year in advance to maximize my price breaks. Received the equipment in a couple of days. Very easy to set up. They ported my existing number faster than the 10 days they said (took only 3). By the 2nd day I realized Packet8 service work for me - I have an alarm system and Dish Network. Both could not dial out using Packet8 voip provider. So I cancelled my account. That's where the problems started. The Packet8 cancellation didn't cause the number port to stop (different departments they said). So my land line number was now in the hands of Packet 8. It took almost 45 days, 17 calls, 15 conversations with supervisors or above, and my phone was "out-of-service" for 32 of those days until my land line got re-established. I returned the equipment immediately, and as of this date (12/21/06) I still do not have my refund (over $240) - I'm still battling over that. Suggestion: 1) go to Vonage or another vendor that offers the ability of your systems dialing out. 2) do NOT port your land line for any vendor, until you are convinced that your new services work for 2 to 3 months. 3) research the customer services of the vendor BEORE stepping in to the pond. read more...

For years I’ve been hearing that VoIP is ‘not quite ready for prime time’. ‘There are still quality occasional quality issues.” Etc, etc, etc. Finally, my father asked that we try it for our small business. We went with Packet8, utilizing their Virtual Office PBX system. We had nothing but problems for the very beginning, and they continued until the day we sent it all back. First they said our router wasn’t good enough. So we blew $250 to upgrade to their “recommended” router. We upgraded our cable internet service to have more bandwidth. We spent endless hours on the phone with tech support, trying all sorts of different troubleshooting solutions. But it was all to no avail. The quality topped out at merely ok, with an extremely annoying delay present on all conversations. But when there was even a small amount of other data being transferred through the internet connection, the calls became absolutely, literally unbearable. One day we came in to the office to find all of the phones dead! When was the last time that happened with your regular phone service? We utilized the money-back guarantee and sent all the equipment back. Never have we been so appreciative of the quality, convenience, and “set it and forget it”-factor of POTS. We will not be venturing into the VoIP waters again, until quality, service and reliability have improved dramatically. read more...

I have used Packet 8 since Nov. 2004 with a few issues. I've had to reset a couple of times. More likely my service was affected due to hardware problems - the router, DTA or the uniden phone. My phone bills have literally been cut in half even with frequent calls to Japan and Taiwan. In fact LD calls a pennies per minute vs. Verizen's $.20 per minute. Packet 8 is the phone of tomorrow. It's been a God-send for our family. read more...

I had packet8 voip phone about a year. Now VOIP is not a rocket science so I believe every company should be better than the other. The difference is in features and price. The tricky part is only the beginning or the initial setup. If you are just using the VOIP adapter then there should not be much problem in setup. If you are using any kind of router and face some kind of connection or voice drop issues consult both the VOIP and the router company to make changes in the settings. Initially I had some issues like loosing voice or breaks during calls. The problem was not with the adapter. I had to make changes in my Linksys router settings mainly adding the DMZ and adapter IP to the router. After that no problem at all. Customer service for me a good. I switched to Sunrocket because of better price and features. I even got my packet8 number transferred to Sunrocket. No problem with Sunrocket either. And every VOIP company gives at least one month free trial period. read more...

I had packet8 voip provider till they bumped me to the business package, it seems that they have a limit on their unlimited calls plan! The audio was not the best i have heard better quality voip services but i did pay a great price! Too bad that the unlimited is not unlimited! I read on another voip provider site that people write on that packet8 is known for bad audio quality but you never know! read more...

I signed up for Packet8 over a year ago. Initially the service was good and I never had any significant problems. Anonymous Call Reject feature never worked and Caller ID did not transmit names, only numbers. Then suddenly, without any type of email message, mail, telephone call, personal appearance, etc., my phone service was disconnected. When I finally got thru to customer service on a land line, I was informed that my credit card had expired and that I needed to provide them with updated information. Well, gee Packet8 rocket scientists, perhaps had I had any notice that you needed this information, I would have gladly provided it. Instead, my service was simply cut off without notice. Since I use this line for business calls, I cannot say how welcome this action was!! Next, on June 6, 2006, Packet8 notified it's customers via email that Caller ID with Name would be available on June 9. Today is July 1 and folks, I still cannot send my name on any outbound calls. I have called Customer Service and sent emails to Tech Support to no avail. Finally, any time I make a local phone call, the echo and packet loss is so bad, that I have to use my land line. I cannot recommend Packet8 at all. The service sucks and especially when I make local calls. Customer Service is an absolute joke. read more...
