Not that great

I have been with Packet8 voip  since May 2005. Quick ship of ATA, easy setup. It worked good until Sept 2006. I often had to reset the box. I had Vonage for a year prior to this, and simply put, Vonage was way better with everything, except price. After Sept 2006 my service and sound quality became poor. Tons of echoes, they constantly blamed my cable provider. Yet speed and size test pinging my cable provider were excellent. People would call and not get anything. I would dial and often still do not get anything. Oh well, after our one year, I am gone. Hate to say it but I had Vonage and thye were better. I had ATTs VOIP for 1 month alos (they did not have my area code in their early days) Both had much better connecions. Packet8 was polite and tried to be helpful so I have no complaints. Vonage is still better.

After reading the poor reviews I wonder who is writing them. I've had Vonage for almost 2 years I do have fiber to my home. But even on DSL it was great. Customer service was exceptional. Everything worked as advertised. These strange billing notes bother me, I get the same bill every month I have a virtual # also which works great. It is still better than the phone company bill which is never the same two months in a row. read more...

Calling from Dubai - Amazing!

Even though the local provider Etisalat blocks the skype.com website - there are ways around - but sum of the fact - calls are between 50% and 90% cheaper with Skype. I pay about 100$ for the 512Kb service - but worth that in the number of calls I make professionally out of the Middle East to EU/N. America alone! Skype quality has improved over the past year Ive used the voip service with each new release. Also - I use a cordless handset and sit in the garden making calls around the world. Clients use the service and my calls are free to them. Best feature is the ability to text/chat to people good for names-links-phone numbers. Also ability to see when they are on line - or leave them a voice mail. read more...
